Take me back to my childhood

By Silver Blue | 2 comments

Well, almost. I had an unexpected treat yesterday when in a candy store, I spied:

Fruit Stripe Gum!!!! This, Hubba Bubba, Bubblicious, Freshen Up (The Gum That goes SQUIRT!), Bazooka, and Chicklets were all the gum of my youth. Sure, there was Juicy Fruit, DoubleMint, and others, but…these were the ones that I remember most fondly, and I’d not seen in almost 35 years.

Silver Blue, who has sometimes, the past can be delicious.

Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?

By Silver Blue

A new show at Festhaus, Busch Gardens, Williamsburg called “Entwined” which has a number of fairy tales mixed together. Of course, Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf are part of the story…

I can’t imagine … perhaps the person in the full body costume has some experience being a mascot because they had no problems dancing and acting out in the outfit.

I think the Lederhosen are a nice touch.

Contemplative wolf.

“I said,” said Red, “You don’t scare me!”

Besides, good wolves get skritchies behind the ears. ๐Ÿ™‚

Part of the Finale number.

I saw the show when it was still being fine tuned. This was much better.

Silver Blue, who is pleased the photos turned out so well without flash. There will be more to come!

We are family…

By Silver Blue

…well, so to speak. These are the current two animal companions of my mom & dad:

Left, is Diva, a pekinese/Lhasa apso mix, and right, Miette, a teacup chihuahua.

As close to sisters as I’m going to come, being an only child.

But you know I can’t come with you…

By Silver Blue

….for I’ll always be scared of heights.

11 random photos of Toronto and Niagara Falls (Canadian) from 2001:

ScotiaBank. If you haven’t gathered, this post is about tall buildings and heights. I wish I could tell you what these other buildings are, but I just simply don’t know. 11 years has washed away a great deal of memory.

Loved the deco style construction on the top of this building.

The way these three buildings lined up … still makes me smile for some reason. It just, in my mind, works.

This is the “New City Hall”. I know what that tall building is. ๐Ÿ™‚

This, therefore, is the “Old City Hall”. ๐Ÿ™‚ I was surprised to see seagulls on the lawn!

Nothing like looking down into the Toronto Skydome stadium from way up in the CN tower!

Me, on the Canadian side of the Niagara Falls (the horseshoe falls).

Finally, me with Misty Bear, mascot of the Maidens of the Mist ships that go up to the falls.

“You lift me up into the sky, feels like I could fly, never gonna die,
And I almost made it, but not quite.
Now you’re flying out of sight, and you know I can’t come with you,
I’ll always be scared of heights.”

Silver Blue…who looks back in wonder…and smiles.

Gotta get back to the simple life again.

On the way out of Kenton, Ohio, en route to Columbus is a “restored” Gulfย  Service station. I’m pretty sure it didn’t start off selling “That Good Gulf Gasoline”, and in fact, it most likely never sold gasoline at all.

Still. The colours, the…the everything. I doubt it was a house (I didn’t go up and peek in the windows), but whatever it was… was classy.

My passion is photography. The passion of others certainly includes restoration of historical artifacts.

They even advertised “Squirt” soda on the door! LOL.

I blame you for the moonlit sky….

By Silver Blue

….and the dream that died with the eagle’s flight…

Don’t blame this sleeping satellite….

Actually, I didn’t take these photos. My mom did, in northern New Hampshire, October 6, 2006. I’m so proud of her (using a point and shoot) that I had to highlight them as a blog post. They’re beautiful. Like my mom is.

She has…well, in her words, she inherited her eye for photographs from me. (A sort of reverse inheritance, perhaps?)

We’re coming up on a full moon soon… time for me to sharpen my skills further. Perhaps I’ll be luckier this month! ๐Ÿ™‚

When Silver Blue WENT Silver Blue.

By Silver Blue

June, 2006. There’s a lot of backstory to this one, but let’s just abbreviate it by saying I’d had my hair bleached platinum, and went temporarily blue.

There you have it. Many pounds ago. Many health issues ago. Many years ago.

That was the time when Silver Blue WENT Silver Blue.

Silver Blue, who is too silver to consider going lighter with my hair these days.

I can move any mountain.

By Silver Blue

Well, not really.

But going to work today was an awesome thing, because of the cloud formations in the sky.

We’d had a storm that dropped in excess of 2″ of rain on the area, and while it had not fully cleared out, the cloud line … looked like mountains.

The cloud line has not been manipulated; in fact, I shot this with my Samsung Android phone this morning.

I’d not seen anything this “defined” in quite some time. Made it look like, instead of driving toward the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel, we were heading for the mountains.

While the clouds in this formation didn’t seem to drop any additional rain on us, later in the day, other clouds did. All a matter of capturing what there is, with what you have.

Here comes the rain again…

By Silver Blue

Woke up this morning to Mother Nature having a field day in raining, and knocking the proliferation of pollen into the gutter and down the drain.

Hard to see in these photos, but the old lady is really having a go at it. We’ll end up somewhere between 1/4 of an inch and 5 inches today, depending on which weather forecaster you listen to. I’m hedging my bets in the 1-2″ range. We need it. The weather has been hot and dry.

Of course, I’d be more happy if we didn’t get it in a 5 minute period, but over the course of the day, so it has a chance to sink in, allowing every plant, tree, and shrub the ability to drink their fill.

As the rain bubbles and dances its way down the gutter, along the curb, there are patches that are heavy yellow with pollen. For the moment, adios allergies.

Very little wind associated with this, however. I was hoping to hear the windchimes in their tonal song, but it’s not meant to be.

After all the blue skies of recent, I must admit that Mother Nature does look good in grey.

But there is such a thing as too much. Quit showing off.

I was fortunate. The rain let up just long enough to grab a few shots and then back up on the porch I went.

Just rememberย  “Hey now, what we had is gone…But I still remember you. Just like a rose after the rain, Something beautiful remains.” (“Something Beautiful Remains”, Tina Turner)

Why do you build me up…

By Silver Blue

…buttercup, baby…

Seeing Double. Well, not really double. But these ARE the first shots with the lens doubler. Took my 300mm lens and made a 600mm out of it. I really can’t wait for the full moon to see what the new photos will look like (the new moon (and lots of rain) is happening tonight, SO….that’s out the window…)

The orangy/pinky rose is getting ready to burst forth again.

Not QUITE in focus (I’m having to do it all manually), these are across the street, 1/2 of the way back on the neighbour’s property.

Finally, also in the yard….

Almost Crimson…and clover. Over and over.
