The word of the day is…
By Silver Blue
Ebelskiver!
No, no. This is a dramatic cloud formation, It is NOT Ebelskiver. So… what is this strange sounding word?
These are Ebelskiver (some spell it Æbelskiver). Danish puff pancake balls. They can be savory (as above, with ham, swiss cheese, and scallions), or sweet:
These are filled with bits of peppermint patties, or candy bars, or strawberry jam.
How does one make them? It does require a specialized pan, available in specialty stores (and Williams/Sonoma):
Here, you can see the pan, the batter, the Hershey Kisses that would go inside. You fill the wells with about 2 tbsp batter, and after about a minute, drop the filling in, then cover another another 2 tbsp batter. After another minute or two, using two chopsticks, or two skewers, you “roll” the Ebelskiver in their individual wells. They pull into the full round shape. Cook for another minute or two and serve hot. Savory, they’re great with salads. Sweet, they’re the perfect ending of a meal.

Feeling Crabby
By Silver Blue
Hella day at work. Best part of the day was going with the housemate to dinner with her dad and stepmom. Seafood is always a good thing, especially when it’s steamed snow crab. (as a side note, and even more importantly, received some excellent news about my Uncle Mike’s health today, so a celebration was in order!!!)
Full of good seafood, I’m now going to bed.
Silver Blue, who is SO glad tomorrow is Friday, you simply do NOT know…
Which end is up?

1996, Newport News Park. Of course, I could have used a title of “Egrets, I’ve have a few…but then again, too few to mention.” Or I could have ‘craned’ my brain in coming up with a catchy phrase…. or maybe I couldn’t have heron all.
What I’m trying to so say is I don’t know what kind of bird this is, but I liked the photo. Those were back in the days when everything was manual. I think I prefer photography these days.

Jacobi played peek-a-boo
By Silver Blue
1994. The cat that turned up on the back step and was a part of my life until she passed on in 2002. Jacobi. I don’t know how old she was because she never grew any larger. This is from an old negative I scanned in, when I lived in the flat.
Two days before Christmas.
Jacobi was only the second cat that’s ever owned me. The first, Tiger, lived with us in Charleston until he moved to my Grandparents on Dad’s side, where one day he simply roamed up into the hills, and vanished.

In the days of the Drive In Movies…
By Silver Blue
November 1999. State College, Pennsylvania. The Starlite.
Undoubtedly, it had seen better days.
However, even in that day and time, it was reasonably priced.
I had gone up for Thanksgiving with my (then) housemate, Tom Rose. We drove by, and he humoured me by stopping and letting me take these shots.
CORRECTION. I had the wrong STARLITE Drive In listed in my original post.
The Drive In is still in business! According to http://www.driveinmovie.com/PA.htm
State College (Centre County) Pennsylvania
Starlite Drive-in Theatre: 814-237-0001
located at 1100 Benner Pike
Finally, the marquee, which didn’t even have the name of the Drive In on it, anymore:
I wonder, some 13 years later, if the marquee or anything has been updated.

Classic car…

As seen cruising down the boulevard at the Oceanfront. A beautifully restored and maintained vehicle.

I’m your biggest fan

…I’ll follow you until you buy me, Capo, Capodimonte…
Having walked 7+ miles today, I’m a bit worn out. Still, I love the look of capodimonte, so… enjoy and I’ll post more photos tomorrow.

I saw…from the Cathedral…

While out and about today, I came across a CD I’d not heard in years. That set my mind to creating a show of photos. For those on devices that cannot display Flash, my apologies.

Our daily bread…
By Silver Blue
…basket.
Some of the best shots I’ve ever taken weren’t staged. They simply came to me, in a flash, such as this empty bread basket at a luncheon where I was attempting to amuse myself while the speaker was engaged in discourse on a topic I couldn’t follow. These are the shots that nourish not only my body, but my mind as well.
Sometimes, repetitive patterns catch my eye (the OH! Something Shiny! syndrome). While I tend to eschew photographing plated lunches because they’re so cookie cutter, there are times it’s been what captured my interest. Take yet another plated lunch and you’ll get…
I’m serious here. Who takes photos of someone eating, of a mostly empty plate, and of a fork going back in for more? That would be… me.
Finally… a photo that warms my heart. Taken in 2006, my mom and dad.talk about nourishing the soul.
Still in love after almost 44 years. I love you both.
