We’re lost…in this… masquerade…
By Silver Blue | 1 comment
1As you know, I’m very big on my “blues”. Including those that are intermingled with the “silvers”. Thanks to my friend, $tar$hine (a/k/a $ally and her “hubby” James) I have a beautiful masquerade mask on my mantle (say that six times fast!) It blends with the “cobalts” (and candles) so well, and it brings me a great deal of joy.

Silver Blue, Blue and Silver…

I don’t donate blood, but I do bleed blue & silver. Or is that silver & blue? Or maybe just silver blue? 🙂
I believe I can fly like an eagle…
By Silver Blue
In 2000, a relationship came to a close. I had no one to buy Christmas presents for, so I treated myself to one. This eagle pendant (sans diamond, at purchase), from J.C. Penny. I liked the looks of the “diamond cut” (which is what his wings and feathers are designed out of). On the back (unbeknownst to me at the time), is the Bible verse Isiah 40:31:
They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint.
A year later, I came across someone else who had a matching eagle: a dynamic lady by the name of Rip Sharp. Hers had the scripture on the back as well.
In 2005, I had the 1/3 rd carat diamond mounted to his talons, making him a one of a kind eagle.
In 2007, I walked away from organized religion once and for all. While I don’t wear the eagle that often any more (he resides in a safe deposit box), I still like him enough to not want to rid myself of him. As an eagle, he speaks to the Shamanistic side of my Cherokee heritage.
Since mid 2007, actually, the only necklace I wear is the Blue beaded “Believe” necklace, the matching fob of which is buried with my Grandma Cottle.
It’s to remind me that no matter what, I MUST Believe in myself, my talents, my gifts, and what/who I am.

Lens Flare?
By Silver Blue
Shooting from traffic, attempting to catch a full moon several years back, I suffered a camera anomaly that I described as lens flare. The setting of the sun captured off the aperture of the camera, and ended up looking like contrails from an aircraft, a meteor, or a UFO.
I can honestly say: This is lens flare. I remember it when it happened. I have a note on the file. There were no meteors, no contrails, no aircraft, and most importantly, no UFOs to be seen.
The people I was driving to have dinner with I no longer associate with. The person who introduced me to them I no longer associate with. My life has gotten better, and as for the bad times? Baby…never again.
Still, I’d like to be able to take shots like this from time to time again. Being stuck on traffic’s what sucks.

The Phoenix Rises Again!
By Silver Blue
This time, courtesy of my friend Lynn, who handcrafted this far, FAR too nifty fob for my camera bag!!!
The silver and blue chain is of a Byzantine style (a/k/a chain mail), the crystals are Swarovski, and the pendant is 100% Phoenix. Created in my colours of silver and blue, it is beautiful, and was a complete surprise. Many thanks to you!!
Whilst I was out and about today, I hit the clearance racks at Kohl’s department store where I found a number of nice items including some frames for the 10″x13″ photos I have (what’s the deal with the odd size??? Standard is 11″x14″. I think Sears Photo is attempting to scam and go cheap. Still, I managed to find two (the only two they had) nice wooden frames for the 10″x13″ photos (one of me, one of the “fearless five” [the five grandchildren on mom’s side of the family]), and for all of $3, this framed item…which spoke such volumes to me it HAD to come home:
I had something like that typewriter growing up…and the case it was mounted in as well (it’s actually SCREWED to the bottom wooden piece that was fabric covered). I wonder, in fact, if it might still be residing in my parents attic, just waiting to be rediscovered….

It’s here!
By Silver Blue
Better than I could have imagined!
Over at Jodie’s Camera Straps — Jodie made the magic happen. She has many, many styles and colours of straps, can digitize logos, has over 100 different colours of thread, and best of all, this took less than a a week from design to production to mailing. Three days from Texas to Virginia, and … 10 minutes from box to being on my camera. 🙂
Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with a stock camera strap except that… well… it’s a stock. If you set your camera down, there’s nothing to identify YOUR camera from the next person’s, especially if they, too are using a stock strap.
But Jodie goes the extra mile with her creations. She doesn’t embroider your name, logo, or combination of both on a piece of material, and then sew that piece on a strap. My particular strap has my logo and name at each end. It’s one continuous strap. Plus, she puts padding between the top strap and the strap that goes over your shoulder/around your neck. The comfort was noticeable immediately.
I look forward to a long, happy relationship with my camera strap (I bought two – one for each of my cameras) and I know that the next time I’m in the market (or if I know of someone who is in the market) — Jodie will be who I turn to.

It’s a day for celebration, and what better way than with a wee chocolate dipped key lime cakelette?

I spy… a spy!
By Silver Blue
2008. Out my living room window. A spy!
Yes, I had a Blue Jay who would fly and spy in my window. I still see either him or his descendents in the spring and summer. It was just amusing to have him around, just about every day (and no, I wasn’t leaving seed out or other food… it was summertime, plenty for him to eat otherwise!).
Roxette Bunny™ wanted me to mention the plates on her former truck (which I’ve donated to charity as it was doing me nothing but costing me insurance and maintenance!).

I have several hundred (okay, closer to a thousand, most likely) of these little fellows, called Cherished Teddies, from Enesco (and Priscilla Hillman, the artist who creates them). Enesco is also the same company who promotes the “Precious Moments” figurines.
I had an 8×10 of Monsieur Chef Bear hanging on my kitchen wall for a while. Since they rotate (the photos), he’s currently not on display, but the actual figurine is on display on a shelf in my dining room.

Colley Avenue, Ghent, Norfolk, VA
By Silver Blue
February 2007. Looks mostly the same, only the San Antonio Sam’s has been replaced with a Chipotle restaurant.
The Red Dog Saloon (previously The Maxx, and before that, Elliott’s). Home to one of the biggest hot dogs I’ve ever seen (I think it was a 16 oz dog!). Haven’t eaten there in a number of years.
Across the street is Bella Pizzaria in Ghent. Love that the neon sign, this night, was malfunctioning, to tell you to:
“Be A Ghent”. LOL. This place has the best garlic knots, and deluxe stromboli I’ve ever put in my face. 🙂
Finally, just a shot up the street:
The neighbourhood pharmacy (one that’s not a chain!), The Red Dog, (now defunct) San Antonio Sam’s, and the Naro Expanded Cinema.
Silver Blue, who’s finds that it’s a lot easier to lose weight when you do the cooking yourself, but the scenery never changes. LOL.
